The fungi feed on oil. Hence the area of the body rich in sebaceous glands allows thicker growth of fungi.

Fungal acne inflames the hair follicle on your skin and causes pimple-like growth. Normally bacteria and fungi keep each other in balance, on the skin, however because of reasons such as antibiotics bacterial colonies can be wiped out, allowing fungi to flare. This could lead to skin irritation, inflammation, and acne.

Another cause of this outbreak is wearing tight nonbreathable clothes. If you wear sweaty exercise clothes for too long or reuse your fitness gear without washing it, you are extending an invite to the fungi to grow. They prefer moist airtight environment to multiply.

Genes are also at play here, and some people are genetically inclined to suffer fungal infections. People suffering from Diabetes or HIV are also susceptible to fungi infection.
